Weather & Safety Policy

Due to the extremely hot and humid summer conditions on the Outer Banks, ceremonies are only scheduled before 8:00am or after 6:30pm. These timeframes help protect the comfort, safety, and health of you, your guests, and any pets included in your celebration.

Hot sand can blister bare feet very quickly. With OBX midday summer sand temperatures typically at 110–125°F, early morning or late evening ceremonies not only help keep everyone safe, but also provide more flattering lighting for your wedding photos.

If you choose to include your pets in your celebration, please remember that their paws are more sensitive to the hot sand than your feet are. Since they like to please their people, your pet may not show signs of discomfort until serious injury has already occurred.

Because Outer Banks weather can change quickly, every couple needs a definite indoor Plan B in place. I will wait for a passing shower to move through when time permits. But for everyone’s safety, I do not perform outdoor ceremonies during thunder and lightning, heavy or sustained rain, wind gusts exceeding 25 mph, tornado watches, or freezing temperatures.

If you do not have an indoor backup location and the weather becomes unsafe, I will work with you to reschedule your ceremony for a better time.
